U14 Girls with Double Win Weekend
On Saturday, the girls played Brentwood Leopards. A resounding win from the Cubs with a 122 v 17 victory.
On Sunday, Ines Svetoslav-Goryanova scored eight of her 19 points in the final quarter of this hard fought game, then eluded defenders frantically trying to foul her to run out the clock as Youngblood’s Cubs held on to beat Norfolk Iceni 63-66.
Calls were one-sided in the final quarter and with Youngblood’s Cubs reduced to 4 players. The Cubs had to stop the onslaught of attacks from Norfolk. Norfolk managed to get within two points of the lead but Tinu Fakunle then sank a pair of free throws to give her side a 3 point lead with just 39 seconds left.
Norfolk came down on the attack and made a sloppy pass which was intercepted and Youngblood’s held the ball to run out the clock with a lead of three.
Head Coach Caroline Charles, said: “I had confidence in the girls! When we were reduced to 4 players not one of them put their heads down. They wanted to win so badly and played well in their second game on the road in two days.”
