
Youngbloods Trio selected for Jr NBA Europe Camp
The National Basketball Association (NBA) today announced the Jr. NBA World Championship Europe Camp, a week-long selection camp for the upcoming Jr. NBA World Championship on Aug. 7-12, 2018 at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando, Fl.
The Jr. NBA World Championship Europe Camp, to be hosted in Rogla, Slovenia April 30 – May 4, will determine the boys and girls teams ages 14 and under that will represent Europe at the Jr. NBA World Championship. Players must be 13 or 14 years old as of December 31, 2018.
There will be three UK participants at the Jr. NBA World Championship Europe Camp including Oluwademilade Dada, Tinu Fakunle and Marc Mendoza who are all players from our club Newham Youngbloods.
The Jr. NBA World Championship Europe Camp will feature participants from 17 of the European countries where a Jr. NBA League currently operates. All Jr. NBA League operating partners had the option to nominate at least one boy and one girl from each league to participate in the camp, which will be conducted by NBA Basketball Operations staff and Jr. NBA League coaches. The camp will focus on developing technical and tactical skills in addition to three-on-three and five-on-five competition. The top 10 boys and top 10 girls will then be selected by a committee of coaches and NBA staff.
The Jr. NBA World Championship, a first-of-its-kind global youth basketball tournament for the top teams’ ages 14 and under from over 70 countries around the world, will have boys and girls divisions, each comprised of 16 regional teams. Two brackets separated into eight U.S. and eight international teams (Africa & Middle East, Asia Pacific, Canada, China, Europe, India, Mexico and South America) will compete in a round-robin competition followed by single-elimination tournaments. Winners of the U.S. and international brackets will play in the championship game on Aug. 12 to decide who will be crowned Jr. NBA World Champion.
