Recap
Buzzing from the first win of the season against their local rivals, Youngbloods U13’s took on a Brentwood fire team that had lost their first game by 80pts. The anticipation was also topped by their first ever-home game at St. Bonaventure’s School where some of the boys attend.
The first quarter got on the way and Youngbloods were rampant taking it to Brentwood with hard pressure defense from Latrell Marson and Nathan Kataraka. Followed up by points from Alex Distras given Youngbloods a 21-0 lead. Although the opponents had a few baskets halfway through the first quarter, intense defensive pressure proved key to a 24-8 quarter lead.
More of the same in the second quarter with 10 year old Lucas Anatanaitis getting his first taste of the national League, scoring his first of two from the ark to the amazement of the crowd, extending the lead and putting the game beyond Brentwood II 62-18.
Second half saw the emergence of Daniel Porter who was quiet in the first half but produced a stunning performance scoring back-to-back baskets on his debut. The strength of the squad was demonstrated when Marcus King-Danchie hit a 3point buzzer beater to end the quarter 92 – 32.
Final quarter started with Youngbloods pushing to hit the 100 point mark and they did with more intense defense from star performer Alejandro Diaz-Pulgarin along with his slick passing and strong finishes. A great team performance where everyone scored contributing to the biggest win of the season so far 116-46.
