Youngblood’s entered the London Basketball Challenge Cup for a pre-season run out with the basketball soon fast approaching. Most players have been working have been working hard throughout the pre-season camps whilst some players have been busy representing the National Teams.
The girls had their tournament on Saturday and were dominant throughout against other London Based sides giving Coach Caroline Charles the first chance to see her players in action for this season and showing they are taking steps in the right direction for the coming season which will begin in a few weeks.
The girls teams are still looking for females aged 11 Years Olds to 17 Years Old for their respective teams.
The London Region U16 invitational tournament tournament in cooperation with Future Stars took place over the weekend at Brunel University. This the second year this tournament will be held and it is a perfect warm-up for the upcoming season.
The tournament consists of 6 teams (Bracknell Cobras, Winchester Royals, Greenhouse Pioneers, Solent Kestrels and Newham Youngblood’s).
Youngblood’s were the overwhelming winners seeing off Greenhouse Pioneers by 1 point and Solent Kestrels by 3point to along the way. The final game against Winchester Royals sealed the deals 45-23.
Captain Marc Mendoza received the MVP of the tournament with Coach Stephen Onireti, the coach of the tournament.
“It was a well run tournament with high standards all round. This was a true test for our new boys and the team as it showed where we are and areas of improvements. Overall, I am very pleased with the the way we played and how the new boys gelled with the team”
Youngbloods would like to thank the London Region for the pre-season event of which we hope will become an annual event.
