U14 Boys Premier win Battle against Richmond Knights

The second home game of the season sees the undefeated Youngbloods Lions welcome Richmond Knights to St. Angela’s who were looking for an upset in the South Premier Division. Youngbloods were without key players due to half-term break.

The game started with Youngbloods having only 6 players on roster. They were determined to give a good fight as Christian Adun proved his dominance by going coast to coast against the Knights defence who had no answer. More came in the way of Joshua Morgan running fast breaks and hitting a deep 3 pointer followed by Edas Rukas with another 3 point shot to end the quarter 30 – 10.

The second quarter would see a dramatic change as the visitors began to mount a comeback taking advantage of Youngbloods lack of substitution. They would go on a 12-0 run forcing a time-out by Coach Laurent Irish. Youngblood rallied behind Adun and Morgan who were formidable on the day as they kept on the fight, but it was the visitors who ended the half stronger to put them to within 12 points.

More from the visitors in the 3rd quarter as they continued their onslaught ripping away at the lead slowly and asking questions of the home side who had no answers. Fatigue played a big role as the home side looked tired and were desperate to hold the led. However, Momentum was on the visitor’s side that closed the gap to within 2 going into the final quarter.

A change in strategy and defence was key as Coach L turned to Morgan and Adun to pick up where they started. Defensive efforts from Rukas and Cameron Thompson slowed the visitor and extending the lions lead. It was Neave Gregoire-Clarke would seal the deal with a swift Lay-up with minutes to go to put the game beyond doubt 69-64.
