U16s Hold Nerve to go Through

Youngblood’s under-16s are through to the quarter-finals of the National Cup after a thrilling win over London Greenhouse Pioneers. The youngsters (pictured above) won 63-62, but not before their rivals had the chance to win it in the dying embers of an exciting contest. Youngblood’s got off to a terrible start and Pioneers scored the first 10 points of the match. But once the visitors got into their stride they slowly started to eat into the lead. Pioneers still led at half-time, though, and it took a rousing second half performance from Youngbloods to turn the game around. Pioneers were hit by a number of three pointers as the visitors came into their own and Youngblood’s won the third quarter 23-7 – and they were 10 points up overall. But a game full of twists and turns took another one as Pioneers regrouped for the fourth quarter. They reduced the deficit to a single point before winning the ball back and racing down the court to try and win the game. As time ran out a Pioneers player had a last gasp basket attempt but it dropped just short and Youngbloods celebrated a quarter final berth where they will face Bucks Hornets at St Angela’s School on Saturday.
