Youngbloods Under 16 Boys hosted Ipswich Basketball club on Saturday as both sides
set to lock horns once again this season after some great encounters the past 2
seasons. Newham started the brighter of the two sides as they won the opening jump
ball which lead to a quick score from **Alex Distras** quickly followed by **Laja
Ogidan,** a successful three point shot from ipswich brought them straight back
before a run of 9 points triggered by Distras’ shot nailed from downtown as **David
Olupitan** and **Termon Serrant** great hustle plays on defence gave the home side
the early initiative as they stormed to a 13-3 early lead forcing the Ipswich coach
to take a time out. The timeout gave the visiting side the impetus they needed as
they rallied to get back into the contest with 3 scores late in the first to bring
them within three points. Distras had plans of his own however as he converted his
next two chances to give Youngbloods 18-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.

A deep three from **Titas Zydelis **start the second quarter for Newham as they
looked to get a firm grip of the game. **Devante Abana-Odita** scored fast in transition
before providing the outside pass for teammate **Shequell Roberts** to knock down
from beyond the 3 point arc. A great read gave Gabriel Sanni the steal and fast
break drive to the basket as he was fouled in transition knocking down both free
throws. Great communication and movement on defence gave Youngbloods further control
of the game as they stormed to a 20 point lead thanks to Roberts, Ogidan and Abana-
Odita connecting well. The great attacking play from the home side help to give
Youngbloods a 43-17 half time score.

The third quarter saw both side slow down in their offensive production as careless
mistakes from both sides kept it an even affair in their third before Menelik Stanley
broke the deadline with a fine finish inside the paint before **Jonathan Odur**
successfully taking advantage of Ipswich’s offensive woes with a score of his own.
Serrant ended the third quarter with a 3 point shot following great team ball movement
with Newham leading 58-22.

Defensive hustle didn’t stop in the fourth with **Richmond Ariyo** converting his
chances adding to the flurry of points for the home side early on. Airyo, Zydelis
and Odur linked up well towards the end of the third quarter as the offenses began
to slice through the oppositions defence as the trio netted 10 points in the space
of 2 minutes before **Idriss Bah** capped off proceedings with a basket from close
range following a strong rebound as Newham confirmed victory, 85-31 final score.

“The intensity today was magnificent, the played as a team and we simply wanted
every ball. There are some improvements to make but today was the best performance
of the season so far” said Head Coach **Aaron Senior**
