### Under 13 Boys⏎ Youngbloods Nitro 70 Brentwood Fire 58

After a long Christmas break without adequate training, Newham Youngbloods Nitro’s
took to St. Bonaventure’s court looking to prove that they are one of the top team
in their division. Brentwood fire were their opponent who gave the Nitro’s a though
run in their first meeting back in October.

From the outset Nitro’s played stifling defence pressuring their guards resulting
in early turnovers and easy scores.  Youngbloods went on a 10-0 run led by **Alex
Distras** and **Alejandro Diaz** who were outstanding on the day. More defensive
efforts by **Latrell Marson** led to a further 8-2 run forcing a time-out by Brentwood’s
Coach. Things got even batter for the Nitro’s when **Daniel Porter** and **Gustus
Skorobogatovas** added 8 points to a brilliant start.  Nitro’s were relentless on
both end of the court to close out the quarter 26-9.

Brentwood started the quarter aggressively slowing down the Nitro’s and scoring
easy baskets. Complacency and over confidence led to early foul trouble for the
home side. A slow and low scoring quarter for the Nitro’s who were held to only
11 points. **Nathan Kataraka’s** defensive efforts in stopping the best player for
Brentwood help the Nitro’s nick the quarter 11-8.

Half time team talk was hardly needed but Coach Stephen must have given them an
ear full cause they came out guns blazing. **Franklin Agu** had a blinding second
half as he began showing how much he had improved in such a short time with back
to back baskets coupled with some slick post moves to the delight of the home supporters.
Brentwood mounted a comeback and ended the quarter better.

Finial quarter played out with Coach Stephen given all his players’ adequate court
times. Brentwood took advantage as they started to mount a comeback lead by their
star player.  **Moziah Dunche** netted in an amazing shot after a well-executed
play to slow down the away side. Brentwood’s amazing end saw them score 26 points
to Nitro’s 17.  **Marcus Dunche** looked confident and played really well. Final
score 70-58 to Youngbloods.

On the 10th of January, the Under 18 Womens Basketball team celebrated a great victory
winning 84-36 against Surrey Stealers.  The first quarter saw **Roshni Lawrence**
open the scoring with a 3 pointer. This was closely followed by a basket from Stealers,
Surrey fought back and levelled the score 12-12 half way through the 1^(st) quarter,
but  a change of defence allowed Youngblood’s to capitalise on Surrey’s mistakes
for the Youngblood’s girls to score 12 points unanswered. End of 1^(st) quarter
22-12.

At the start of the second quarter Youngblood’s continued to apply the pressure
by changing their offence and defence numerous times to baffle the Stealers. Youngblood’s
ran out the second quarter with 22 points and the Stealers could only reply with
6 points. **Mya McKenzie** scored 7 within quick succession of each other, with
baskets also from **Jemima Ababio, Brenda Kipewu, Rianna Laing**

In the third quarter **Maria Delgado** found her form and started shooting from
around the arc adding to her teams scoring booty,  In the final quarter, good  Stealers
started to put on good defensive blocks, but with Youngblood’s eager to close the
game out with their first win of 2015 the girls piled on the pressure, if they didn’t
score the first time they refused to leave the basket until they had scored. An
Excellent game to watch for the Youngblood’s fan’s as the players showed excellent
game play and skills. **Coach Charles** remarked that the way the girls played today
left me positively beaming!
