Another Jam-Packed weekend for the club as our teams all travelled away for their
games this weekend, in what proved to be a highly successful weekend for our teams,
completing a clean sweep of wins as mid point in the season approaches.

### Saturday 29th November 2014

### Under 14 Boys

### Kent Crusaders 33 Youngbloods 67

### Under 15 Boys

### Southend Scorpions 60 Youngbloods 101

Hard fixture today as the Crusaders arrived at Southend looking for a win. The starting
five of Termon Serrant, Ronan, Francis Mosery, Shakim Vige and Jonathan Odur, were
looking to produce a performance that would set the bench mark for the reminder
of the match. Coach Stephen Onireti’s team talk was simple (Run, Run, Run) and they
did this with multiple fast break assisted by **Termon Serrant** and finished by**
Jonathan Odur**. Southend had a string of chances early on to come back on level
terms but failed to convert, the zone defence by the Crusaders proved too strong
for the opposition. Foul trouble and rotation on the other hand helped restore the
balance for Southend as they went on a 8-0 run, but Crusaders managed to hang on
to nick the quarter 20-17.

In the second quarter **Francis Mosery** and **Shakim Vige** went to work on the
Southend ‘bigs’ dominating the boards. **Idriss Bah** came on to give the defence
an extra boost in length which proved too much for Southend. Crusaders went on a
12-0 run and were cruising with more and more fast breaks.

Coach Stephen made a few changes in the third quarter which resulted in Southend’s
early run. However this didn’t faze the Crusaders as they gathered themselves and
performed solidly by dominating the boards and ending the quarter the stronger 28-
23.

Moving into the final quarter and with Youngbloods Crusaders leading by 29 point,
the boy’s decided to close the game out and reach the 100 points mark. **Titas Zyedelis**
lead the way attacking the paint and scoring some spectacular lay-up’s.  Southend
gave their all but fell short as they turned the ball over in their efforts. At
the dying minute **Daniel Ikeyi** finally hit a 3 point shoot to get over 100points
and secured the win.

### Under 16 Boys

### Brentwood Fire 75 Youngbloods 76

Youngblood’s Under 16s had a jam-packed weekend as they played Brentwood Fire on
Saturday in Shenfield followed by a local-derby on Saturday as they played Newham
All Star Sports Academy (NASSA) at UEL SportsDock.

Under 16 Boys travelled away to Brentwood early Saturday afternoon with a heavily
rotated squad as they looked to continue their unbeaten run in the Basketball England
U16 Boys Southern Premier Division. The 1^(st) quarter began tentative for both
sides, as both teams got off to a slow start, with neither team able to find a basket
to break the deadlock a couple of minutes into the game with a basket from **Jonathan
Ragasa** for Youngblood’s; however a run for Brentwood fire happened quickly after
giving Brentwood a 17-13 Lead at the end of the first. More of the same continued
in the second quarter as Youngblood’s failed to get into a good shooting rhythm
with the humidity in the sports hall rising beyond normal levels, it began to take
a hold on Youngblood’s as they went into the half time break down by 8 points, Brentwood
with 28 and Youngblood’s 30.

Youngblood’s came out very aggressive from the outset defensively forcing many turnovers
from Brentwood as they looked to get into the lead for the first time since the
opening minutes of the game, three 3pt shots in a row by **Jonathan Ragasa** and
two from **Rayon Brown** helped Youngblood’s establish a 7 point lead heading into
the final quarter, Winning the quarter 27-12. Brentwood knew they needed to come
out fighting in the final stanza as Youngblood’s were dominant from the outset,
however slow play from Youngblood’s with clumsy and unconverted plays offensively
and no defensive stops for Newham gave Brentwood the initiative as they brought
back the game late on to force overtime to be played. Youngbloods controlled the
overtime period from the outset, looking to re-establish their lead, with **Nathan
Moyo** attacking the basket aggressively, and the game was sealed from the free-
throw line as Brown was fouled as he drove to the basket, cooly making the first
shot, whilst intentionally missing the second shot to allow time to expire and no
chance of a timeout by the Home Team. Youngbloods prevailing with 75-76, 1 point
win to keep their unbeaten league form going.

Coach **Aaron Senior** said “This wasn’t our finest display, but we had to show
fighting spirit in order to come away with the win. However this game provided minutes
to many players in the squad, and it was a team effort that won today’s game”

### Under 18 Women

Under 18 Women had a stand-out performance against Lewisham Thunder

The Youngblood’s u18 girls put on a majestic performance at the Thunderdome in Millwall
on Saturday 29^(th) Nov. The team is still trying to get use to the new offences
and defences Coach Caroline has given them to do, so the whole game was trial and
error, I wanted the team not to get stuck in a rut doing the same thing so there
was loads of rotations of the bench and changes in the pace of the game. We started
slowly and that seemed to suit Lewisham as they managed to stay with us in the first
quarter and Youngblood’s only had the lead by 1 point 16-17.

However with a change of defence and tempo the second quarter saw junior player
Roshni Lawrence find her form and help the Youngblood’s team to take a 26-4 second
quarter. Lewisham had no answer to the sudden injection of pace and tried their
best, to come back, but this was to no avail Rhianna Laing, Camille Francis (back
from injury) Evelyn Adebayo, Maria Delgado were all hitting the target with their
shots.

The Youngblood ladies had a comfortable lead and continued to work as a team in
the 4^(th) quarter to tear the Lewisham offence to shreds and then convert their
mistakes into points for Youngblood’s.

Under 16 Boys enjoyed a successful weekend, winning both games

In the second match up between the two local rivals in Newham in one month, Youngblood’s
looked to gain the upper-hand and the head to head advantage over their rivals whilst
NASSA were looking for revenge after a 27 point loss in the previous game between
the two sides.

Youngblood’s and NASSA began the first quarter trading baskets with no team gaining
particular advantage in the initial stages, before two quick transition scores from**
Jelani Watson-Gayle** gave Youngblood’s an early lead half way through the first.
Nevertheless, NASSA were not going to bow out without a fight, as they converted
a big three point shot and two back to back layups as they tied the game. **Joel
Osei’s** strong drive to the basket, followed by a foul, and converted free –throw
gave Youngblood’s the upper hand, however another three point shot from NASSA gave
them a first quarter lead by 1 point, 27-26.

The two sides started the second quarter trading baskets again, with neither side
able to gain the upper hand; However, **Nathan Moyo** and **Rayon Brown** had plans
of their own as they began to exploit mismatches, and gain a command of the key,
giving Youngblood’s the lead heading to half time 52-50.

Youngblood’s changed their defence, and the expressed desire to increase their lead
even further, with the emphasis of hustling and attacking play and defensively not
allowing penetrations to the basket. Quick points from **Aaron Martin** and Watson-
Gayle aswell as 3 point shot from Brown gave early advantage to Youngblood’s in
the third. With Osei and **Ify Chuks** deputising in the middle, rebounds came aplenty
for the visiting side. Bad decisions by NASSA offensively and great reads defensively
by Martin gave him 6 points in a row to close out the quarter for Youngblood’s with
a 19 point lead giving youngbloods control of the game at the end of the third,
as Youngbloods went on to win the game by 8 points 95-87 and local bragging rights
as the Youngbloods Under 16 boys win for the second time this month to take the
series against their local Opposition, completing a successful weekend as they currently
lie top of the Basketball England South Premier Division, with a 8 win 0 Loss record
in league play.

Coach **Aaron Senior** said “_Our performance could have been better, but when it
mattered especially in the third quarter, we produced great stops and attacking
play to gain an advantage, it always good to win local derbies like this one, as
we march on to try and seal top spot within the league._”
